Dickens Festijn Deventer
19 & 20 December 2020
14 April 2020 – The coronavirus keeps the Netherlands and the world firmly in its grip. These are uncertain and turbulent times. The most important thing now is that everyone stays or becomes healthy. We are working hard on what is possible and impossible this year. Of course, we are guided by the rules and guidelines of the governments and the RIVM.
It is a tough balancing act. We hope that the Dickens Festijn can continue, but we have to make a responsible choice. This choice contrasts sharply with the current calamities.
We wish everyone who cares and everyone who has a hard time a lot of strength. Take good care of yourself and each other. “Now let’s keep our distance to hug each other again with more warmth”.

About the Dickens Festijn
The 19th century English city of Charles Dickens revives in full glory in the centre of Deventer. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December, more than 950 characters from the famous books of this English writer come to life in the historic Bergkwartier: from Scrooge to Oliver Twist, from Mr. Pickwick to Christmas Carol Singers, from orphans to office clerks and distinguished figures. The Dickens Festivity is both days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is visited by over 125,000 visitors each year. Admission is free. Please keep in mind that there will be a waiting time at the entrance.
The Christmas market in the Grote or Lebuinuskerk takes place from 17 to 20 December. On the Brink is the weekly goods market on 19 December and on 20 December there is a Christmas market. On 20 December it is also Christmas shopping Sunday in the city centre. In addition, on Sunday 20 December there will be free concerts in churches in the centre with the participation of choirs and music groups from Deventer and the surrounding area under the title ‘Deventer Kerststad’.
