Dickens Festijn Deventer
cancelled for 2020
7th of September 2020 – The annual Dickens Festival in Deventer will be cancelled this year due to the corona virus. Event agency dEVENTer, responsible for the organisation of the event, unfortunately had to make this decision. The Dickens Festival was planned to take place on Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of December.
The main reason is that large-scale public events can only take place if health and safety can be guaranteed and everyone can adhere to a social distance of 1.5 meters. That is not possible during the Dickens Festival in the historic Bergkwartier, with its narrow streets, thousands of visitors, hundreds of participants, residents, choirs and many volunteers.
Health and safety also applies on the social aspects of the festival. The organization commits itself to the so-called ‘Inclusivity code’. This means that events only take place if everyone can and is allowed to participate.
Event organizer dEVENTer is aware of the cultural, social and economic impact of this cancellation and regrets to have to make this decision.
We are looking positively to next year: the 30th edition of the Dickens Festival on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of December 2021, an anniversary!
